My sewing club at the Richmond Aud

My sewing club is starting next week at the Aud-Regional Youth Complex.  It costs $40.00 per month or a $15.00 drop in fee, if space is available.  We are hoping to help some young people to make an entry for the Innovation Generation Contest at the American Sewing Expo next year!

I'm listed as the 'coach' in the flyer because I have to keep my hands off of the IG entries.  Normally I'm more hands on, and do the cutting on some of the introductory projects.  I am prepared to do a mock up if necessary though to show the kids what they need to do.

Who am I?  Well, I'm mostly self taught, with exceptional mentors.  I have a contract production sewing company, that is pretty quiet these days as I concentrate on raising my children.  I used to make 30 to 50 jackets a week for Artclothes by Jennifer Sly, plus whatever else I could get my hands on.

Much to my chagrin, I am not a designer, not really, but I can figure things out and  I am an excellent seamstress.  I love to teach sewing to anyone who wants to learn and could really talk sewing all day if it was an option.

I try to create success, satisfaction and excitement in young people getting started sewing.  I'm flexible, I can think about more than one project at a time and I can help their vision to come through. While I do believe that there are better ways to do things, I do not think there is only one way.

Good luck with the club! Don't worry about not being a "designer"; designers would be nothing without the technicians that make it all work!

Thanks Mary! It isn't so much a worry as an acknowledgement... I watch Project Runway and think 'that would be fun, I could sew that fast', but then they start talking about a 'point of view' and I'm afraid I'm lacking! :)
